Netbooks are the hottest trend in personal computers. They are very small but highly affordable computers.
Thanks to the widespread use of wireless networking, the idea of having a small computer that one can quickly
use to access the internet to browse the web or check email is very appealing.
Most netbooks are not fast when it comes to computing. They are not designed for fast speeds but more for power efficiency. But, they make up for the lack in horsepower by providing high levels of convenience and portability. Since their computing tasks are limited and cost is a key factor, the number of features in a netbook is less than you would find in a traditional laptop or even an ultraportable. Items such as CD/DVD drives are not required and only add to the cost and bulk of the system. By removing features like this, they can reduce the weight, size and power consumption. As a result, most people will not be able to use a netbook as a complete PC replacement unless they purchase additional peripherals like external drives. Also, when choosing a netbook it is sometimes necessary to decide if you want a solid state drive (SSD) or an actual hard drive (HD). The SSD usually will offer less capacity, but does provide quick read/write times and a typically lower cost. The HD versions usually are more expensive, but they can offer large capacity. Finally, most of the current netbooks offer operating systems and software in the Windows XP genre or in some of the more esoteric systems based on the Linux model. No matter how you choose to configure your netbook, you’ll quickly discover that you’ve acquire a handy and useful tool. |
